What is the bathing water quality map telling me?

This map shows you all the bathing waters in the area, and whether the water quality there has been temporarily affected by the operation of storm overflows.

How to use the map

1. Click on a bathing water pin or use the search box.
2. A pop-up will appear confirming the status of the water quality, and linking to a page with more information about that bathing water.

On a mobile device, the map is best viewed in full screen in portrait mode.

What factors influence water quality?

Storm overflows are one of many factors that can impact water quality. Other factors include:

* Run off from farms that can carry pollutants like manure and fertiliser
* Sewers being blocked by wipes and cooking fat, causing flooding that sends waste into nearby waterways
* Run off from roads and built-up areas that carries traces of pollutants
* Pollution from industrial sources
* Waste from sources like dogs, birds and wildlife
* Misconnected pipes in private properties sending sewage into drains intended for rainwater.
